>> FEATURED ARTIST
Ryan Bramwell
Hello. My name is Ryan Bramwell. I like pictures that move. I like TV. I like making TV. I thought I would give you all a bit of history of myself and let my work speak for itself. I am a graduate of AIC circa the summer of 2002 with a degree in Multimedia Arts and animation. Back then, this course was heavily 3D influenced with illustration. My base was in character animation and texturing. I then learned that I could look forward to 2 years on the donkey’s hair in Shrek as a first job (if I was lucky) and my A.D.D. didn’t really approve of such a task so I quickly looked for another route in this program that would appeal more to my senses and hopefully help me stand out more. What I found was After Effects.

Since I picked up After Effects, I have been completely addicted. I immediately saw the possibilities of using every sort of medium, from paint and watercolor; to 3d and photography; to illustration and experimentation. I absolutely was amazed at the limitless options I had at my disposal to create. Motion design, broadcast design or TV animation was really just beginning to pick up back then as a mainstream media. More specifically, large commercial clients (with deep pockets) were just beginning to use high art and experimental methods of animation in a mainstream manner to get their brand out there. Since then, as most of you know, and explosion of talented motion design boutiques have opened up and the industry has flourished. After graduation, I took a “turn and burn” job at a local TV job classifieds company. Although it lacked in creativity, this job taught me to be a fast and effective artist, which has been a most valued asset to date.

After my short and uninspiring role there, I moved to New Frontier Media in Boulder. For those of you who don’t know, this is the headquarters of one of the world’s largest pay per view adult networks in the world. Why porn? Well if you take away the content aspect of it, this company allowed me to grow in an experimental nature, as I was just finding my style. “Noof,” as we call it, also taught me how a TV network ran, the elements comprised in network branding, and creating cohesive motion designs for specific channels. Soon after I tired and headed straight to NYC to do a stint as a lead designer and a freelancer for all the big guns. My biggest piece of advice it that every artist in the world should spend at least one year living in NYC or LA. It puts hair on your balls, chest, boobs, whatever… I soon came back, as I am a bit more laid back, and began freelancing. Through my connections from NYC and LA, it got busy….very busy. So Spillt was made with a friend of mine who has since left to stay freelance and we have been rocking ever since.

Spillt is an experiment in Denver, CO. Its main purpose is to help bring mainstream network motion design into Colorado and promote a healthy and albeit insane lifestyle in open creativity. While we are not the only production house in Denver, we are one of the only Motion Design Boutiques in Denver, focusing ONLY on motion design. Its mission is to fill a niche in Denver. Where other very talented firms have gone to a lot on interactivity, film and video production and special effects, we will remain focused on progressive and experimental motion design for the masses.

Well that’s all I can think of that would be relevant to a featured artist here. I try to stay open to any questions from students and am always looking for hot talent to add to our roster, so feel free to shoot an email and check out the site.

PS: Listen to Tom Flanagan and Don Long. They know exactly what the f**k they are talking about and they will make twice the artist you think you are in one class.

Once upon a time, I turned a corner and saw...

a burning mime
a rift in time
a Corona with lime
a sad-eyed puppy
a knife fight
daddy wearing mommy's clothes
the lamb opening the seventh seal
three burning mimes beating a clown to death
with a fire extinguisher
a white ball of healing light
an adorable kitten
an adorable kitten beating a clown to death
